The Open Source Bible Manifesto
We are disciple-makers. Our mission is clear: to teach, share, and spread the Word of God to all nations, in every context, through every means possible. But time and time again, we found ourselves restricted — limited by copyrights, licenses, and corporate interests that have turned God’s Word into a product rather than a free gift.
We experienced the frustration of wanting to adapt the Scriptures for our students, congregations, digital tools, and creative works, only to face quotas, fees, and permissions. We saw the barriers placed before those who simply wanted to share the Good News. And we recognized a growing danger: the Word of God, intended to be freely given, was being increasingly locked away behind the walls of capitalism and proprietary control.
Like Jesus in the temple courts, we are ready to make a whip and drive out the money changers. The Bible is not a commodity to be traded. It is the foundation of our faith, a beacon of truth, and a source of life for all people. We believe that no corporation, publisher, or organization should hold the power to limit or control the spread of the Word. The Gospel is meant to be freely received and freely given — without restriction, without paywalls, without permission slips.
That’s why we started the Open Source Bible (OSB). This is more than a translation; it is a declaration of freedom. By making the OSB open-source, we ensure that the Scriptures remain free, adaptable, and available to everyone. No one can lock it down. No one can claim it as their exclusive property. The OSB belongs to the global community of believers, and it always will.
Our vision is simple yet revolutionary: a future where the Bible is not shaped by corporate interests but by the needs of disciple-makers, teachers, pastors, developers, and creators. We believe that when the Bible is open, the possibilities are endless — new apps, creative projects, simplified texts for children, translations for every language and culture, and teaching resources that can reach every corner of the earth.
By making the OSB the default translation for the English-speaking world, we are safeguarding the future of God’s Word. We are ensuring that it can never be bought, sold, or restricted. It remains a gift for all people, in all places, for all time.
This is a call to action. Use the Open Source Bible in your daily study, in your churches, in your teaching, and in your innovations. Share it, adapt it, and spread it. Every time you choose the OSB, you are making a stand for the freedom of the Gospel. You are driving out the money changers and reclaiming the sacred ground of God’s Word.
The Bible was never meant to be held captive. Together, let’s keep it free.
